Izabela Uchman
Izabela Uchman is a Cairo-based Polish artist and conservator of fine arts. She earned master’s degree with distinction from Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 2002; since then was cooperating with many culture institutions including UNESCO. She
originated her own type of artwork named as “LETTEREALITY”- a literary picture, which transforms selected texts into unique visual forms. Her main goal is to create the distinguishable reality where the plastic forms inspired by the poetry and philosophy coexist in harmony with their meaning. Artist’s style combines symbols
rooted in various cultures, reflecting her special interest in Arabic calligraphy, ornamentation and ancient Egyptian art. She explores relation between individual and cultural heritage, which encloses not only inspiring diversity revealed in many different ideas, but also common principles and collective achievements of human knowledge and experience. Uchman tries to discover the new aspects of “identity” and “cultural affiliation” creating artistic platform for a intercultural dialog. Izabela Uchman’s art has been presented in numerous exhibitions and publication. Her works are showcased in public and private collections in Europe, Middle East, USA; they were acclaimed and purchased by the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka.
